Kensington Train Station / Nothing But Blue (update)

Nothing But Blue by Lisa Jahn CloughI’ve written about this previously but last week I was pleasantly surprised by a package that arrived at my office. It contained two copies of the book, a note, and several jacket covers:

The note reads:

Thanks so much, Charles,
for your beautiful photograph.
We’ve already gotten
favorable reviews from
our test readers, and
we’re grateful to you!
Thanks again

It’s hard to understate what a big deal this is to me… first, this photo was taken entirely by chance — one foggy morning when I should have been getting ready for work, I decided to run outside in my pajamas and snap a few pictures. Second, I uploaded it to my website, flickr, and deviantART and then kind of forgot about it for a few years. Then one day out of the blue (no pun intended) I get an e-mail from Susanna asking me to confirm if this photo was mine. The rest is history.

This is the first photograph of mine that has been used professionally and it has given me the motivation that I needed to ensure that it (hopefully) won’t be the last.

In closing, I just wanted to say thanks to Susanna Vagt, Houghton Mifflin, and Lisa Jahn-Clough for supporting my habit :-)

Kensington Train Station / Nothing But Blue

This might be old news to some of you but I didn’t want to write a post about this until the book was officially announced. A while back I got an e-mail from Susanna Vagt at Houghton Mifflin asking if I’d be interested in letting them use one of my photographs for the cover of a new book due to come out in May 2013. Of course I was interested :-)

Anyway, here’s where you can find the book; it’s titled Nothing but Blue
by Lisa Jahn-Clough.
